Mumbai terrorised: Terrorists may have claimed to be from Malaysia | ||
PETALING JAYA (Malaysia): Several of the terrorists who went on a random shooting spree in Mumbai may have tried to pass themselves off as Malaysians before carrying out the attacks. Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar did not discount the possibility, saying that many groups sought Malaysian documents as Malaysia was well-known as a safe and peaceful country. Malaysian authorities are trying to ascertain if foreign reports claiming that the terrorists used a Malaysian cover are true. The gunmen who killed 180 people were said to have had Malaysian addresses. Malaysian-issued credit cards were also found. Syed Hamid said Malaysian authorities would assist their Indian counterparts in investigations. Meanwhile, the 60-hour siege of Mumbai which left 180 dead was reportedly carried out after a year of extensive planning and intense training by a tightly-knit, well-financed and meticulous militant outfit. During the training, the terrorists were taught the use of explosives and close-quarter combat, according to people who interrogated the lone captured terrorist. |
