Malaysia GP: JiR MotoGP 250cc Qualifying Recap

Yuki Takahashi, on the second row at Malaysian Grand Prix

The second day of practice and qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix has been affected by heavy rain in the morning which forced most of the riders to stay in the pits. Yuki Takahashi managed to make only six laps with no possibility of continuing the work of development of his Honda. The qualifying was conducted with a dry track and ended with the Japanese rider on the second row. Yuki is confident that tomorrow he can snatch a good result but that a good start will be vital if he’s to stay with the leaders.

Gianni Berti – Technical Coordinator – JiR Team Scot

"These were two days of intense work, in which the team gave 100% managing to get a good result, given the short time available to test in the dry conditions. Yuki has improved steadily and was among the few riders who today have managed to improve their performance. Tomorrow we may be able to fight with the leading group."

"This afternoon, in the second qualifying round, things went well. I am satisfied but it is beyond me why only seven other riders managed to improve the times recorded yesterday. If tomorrow is dry for me we will be in a good condition and we could be fast. It will be important to stay among the first riders at the beginning of the race. The conditions of the track, despite the rain, have not deteriorated and neither have they nfluenced our practice and qualifying.

I have a good race-pace, but the level of the competition is high, but we will do our utmost to achieve a good result. During practice I have improved my confidence with the track and even if it is hot and humid I do not feel any fatigue. The bike is in place and we have to make a few minor adjustments in the warm-up tomorrow. "

Yutaka Hirano – Head Technician – JiR Team Scot

"Today we focused on tuning the suspension only during the round of qualifying in the afternoon. We have mounted two solutions of different tyres and only in the warm-up tomorrow will we decide what to use for the race. I have a good feeling about the race, although Yuki must get a good start from the second row."
